Radiculopathy develops when a nerve root in the spine becomes irritated or compressed. When this happens in the neck, known as cervical radiculopathy, symptoms may travel into the shoulder, arm, or hand. Lumbar radiculopathy begins in the lower back and may cause pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness through the buttock, leg, or foot.

Disc problems, arthritis, and narrowing around the nerves are some of the issues that can contribute to radiculopathy. Depending on the cause, chiropractic treatment may include adjustments, decompression, exercises, or other conservative therapies aimed at improving spinal mechanics and reducing irritation around the affected area. An evaluation can help determine where your symptoms are coming from and the best way to address them.
