Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It involves irritation of the plantar fascia, a strong band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot. Pain is often worse during the first few steps in the morning, after sitting for a long period, or following extended periods of standing and activity.
Although the pain occurs in the foot, the way the ankles, knees, hips, and lower body move can affect the amount of stress placed on the plantar fascia. Chiropractic treatment may include joint mobilization, soft tissue work, stretching, strengthening, and evaluation of lower-body mechanics. Addressing contributing movement problems can help take unnecessary stress off the foot and improve overall function.
